I got my Shorebased Navigation Instructor certificate

Another small milestone achieved today getting my “Shorebased Navigation Instructor” certificate after a two days course in Hamble!
It was a great experience… And surely is going to help me out in moving my first steps as a sailing instructor!

We covered how to make sure our lessons are informative but also entertaining and interactive, how to be creative with props, how to find new ways and perspectives to explain the same theoretical concept!
At the end of the course each of us had a

chance to deliver a session to practice our skills. Mine? Navigation and pilotage in restricted visibility!

Thanks to Roger, my instructor for this course, and goodby to Celine who has completed the course with me!

I’m an RYA Cruising Instructor!!!

3 weeks spent here in Falmouth, Cornwall, to prepare and complete my RYA Cruising Instructor course.

Last week was pretty intense and challenging: plan and deliver my first few practical and theoretical lessons, take actions on all the feedback received by the instructor, learn how to set-up a good scenario to demonstrate and allow the students to practice a new skill, refresh my skills on how to deliver constructive feedbacks and good coaching sessions.

And Friday the final challenge: going out with a gale 8 for our final day with the Moderator onboard. My lessons for the last day? Practical session on reefing and theory one on tidal stream.

I’ve learned a lot and I’m going home with an higher awareness of my sailing skills and knowledge.

Time to say goodbye to Alan, Michelle and Nick that have shared with me this great experience and thank you to Bob, Mike and Neal for the support along this journey. Goodbye Cornwall!

Fair winds and following seas and, if you want to follow me during my next adventures, here my Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/BecomingYachtmaster).
